Josh & Kim Ferris, April 13, 2019

Our regular readers know how much we love vintage gown projects, and Kim’s gown was no exception. Such a sweet classic style that really came to life with the changes she imagined and then her smile while wearing it!

Here you can see the gown on Kim’s mom in the early 1980s and on Kim during her first appointment in our studio. The gown fit Kim really well and was in beautiful condition (kudos to her mom for having it preserved 37 years ago!). However, the bodice ruffles, sleeves, and ruffles at the bottom of the skirt were a bit much for Kim’s modern taste. She worked with Sherry to envision a sleeker A-line gown that stayed true to the inspiration of the original gown without as much fuss.

We removed the sleeves and the ruffles, treated the fabric so that it would be fresh and smooth - the gown was not soiled or yellowed - and fit it “just right” to Kim.

Josh and Kim used Katie Grace Photography, who was so very gracious in sharing these photos with us right away!

Working with Great Lakes WGS was a great experience. It was so much fun to see the transformation of the dress over time! I felt like the dress was in good hands through the whole process. The final product was truly special and simply gorgeous!
